The Rite of the Womb, 13th Rite of the Munay-Ki, is a ritual, birthed into being by Marcela Lobos, a medicine woman initiated in the healing and spiritual traditions of the Amazon and the Andes. The Munay-Ki are a series of rituals brought to the West by Marcela’s husband, Dr. Alberto Villoldo, distilled from his work as a medical anthropologist with the high shamans of South America.
As Dr. Villoldo says, “Rites of passage and initiation have been practiced for millennia by all peoples in the Earth. The rites of the Munay-Ki are based on initiatory practices of the shamans of the Andes and the Amazon. They are stripped of all trace of the indigenous cultures they come from. I did this to respect the native traditions, and to avoid the idea that persons from the West can become traditional shamans or Indians.”
The 13th Rite of the Womb came to Marcela Lobos in a dream, where four medicine women midwifed her as she birthed a baby representing her ancestral fear and pain that had become a blockage in her womb.
These medicine women had freed their wombs from trauma and suffering using the spirit medicine of the jungle, the power of the Jaguar, to heal themselves and thus heal Mother Earth. Some years later, in a shamanic journey the medicine women returned and gave Marcela the 13th Rite of the Womb to share with women around the world. In the 13th Rite of the Womb, we invite the medicine women and the spirit of the Jaguar to be with us as we initiate deep womb healing for ourselves, our ancestral lines, and our daughters who have yet to be born.
The Rite of the Womb is a healing and a blessing connecting us to a lineage of women who freed themselves from suffering. This lineage wants us to remember that “the womb is not a place to store fear or pain; the womb is to create and give birth to life.
The Rite of the Womb is the final transmission of The Munay-Ki Rites, it connects us to the mysteries of the feminine. This transmission offers us an opportunity to seek refuge where we are held within a safe space, so that we can surrender within the darkness and be filled with new luminous potentials.
The rite provides healing, helping to clear intense emotions, heaviness, or illness. Even if a woman lost her physical womb, she has the energetic matrix, which means she can still receive and transmit the Rite of the Womb. Everyone can receive this rite, and men are also welcome to receive.
The rite is focused on the energetic womb, creative centre, and is transmitted from person to person. She who is offering the rite, activates the wisdom of the lineage to whoever is receiving the rite through a blessing and sacred ceremony.
The Rite of the Womb touches people in all kinds of ways, it is a very individual experience. It offers a purification ritual to help us realize that we have the power to release what holds us back so that we can give birth to the new times that await us over the horizon. It allows our power centre, our womb, to incubate and birth our dream of a golden age to come.
